The Los Angeles Chargers continued their strong season, jumping eight spots in the defensive line rankings after a dominant performance against the Cleveland Browns in Week 9. The Chargers’ victory was highlighted by Khalil Mack’s sack of Browns quarterback Jameis Winston, contributing to a 6-yard loss for Cleveland.
The Browns, meanwhile, suffered a setback after trading away key defensive lineman Za’Darius Smith to the Detroit Lions. This move saw Cleveland drop three spots in the rankings, despite remaining within the top five.
The Pittsburgh Steelers, who were on a bye in Week 9, continue to hold the top spot in the defensive line rankings. Their dominance has been evident throughout the season, from their Week 1 shut down of Kirk Cousins and the Falcons to their dismantling of Daniel Jones and the Giants in Week 8.
T.J. Watt has been a standout for the Steelers, earning a place on PFF’s Midseason All-Pro Team at edge defender. He has been particularly impressive against the run. Meanwhile, teammate Alex Highsmith has thrived as a pass rusher, recording 30 total pressures and an 18.0% pass-rush win rate.
Another notable performer is Fletcher Cox, who leads the Eagles’ defensive line thanks to three strong performances in the last four games. His strength lies in pass rushing, where he boasts an 84.7 grade, the third-best among defensive interiors in the NFL.
As the season progresses, these dominant defensive lines are expected to continue shaping the outcome of games, showcasing their ability to disrupt offenses and control the tempo of play.
