**SRINAGAR:** BJP leader and Leader of the Opposition, Sunil Sharma, has accused the National Conference (NC) of engaging in a “deceptive campaign” by pushing for the reinstatement of Article 370, claiming it is an attempt to mislead Kashmiris and stir unrest.
In an exclusive interview with Kashmir Despatch, Sharma asserted that the NC resolution on Article 370 is based on “outdated provisions and false promises,” as the special status provision was constitutionally rendered obsolete in 2019. He challenged NC Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to a debate on the matter, urging him to thoroughly study the Indian Constitution.
Sharma further questioned the conduct of the NC-led assembly Speaker, Abdul Rahim Rather, accusing him of bias and reminding him that Article 370 is no longer legally valid. He criticized the NC for focusing on a “non-existent special status” while neglecting pressing issues like development and the people’s needs.
Sharma also highlighted the negative history associated with Article 370, questioning if the NC’s push for its restoration includes past events like the forced migration of Kashmiri Pandits and civilian killings. He accused the NC of using Article 370 as a political tool to divert attention from their shortcomings and potentially incite unrest among Kashmiri youth.
The BJP leader emphasized the need for the NC to address the pressing issues faced by the people of Kashmir, rather than exploiting Article 370 for political gain. He warned that the NC’s approach could lead to a return to a cycle of violence and protests.
