Thu Nov 07 23:25:32 UTC 2024: ## Manchester United Held to Draw by Chelsea in Tense Encounter at Old Trafford

**Manchester, England:** Manchester United were held to a 1-1 draw by Chelsea at Old Trafford on Sunday, with Moises Caicedo’s stunning volley cancelling out Bruno Fernandes’ earlier penalty.

The Red Devils, under interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy, looked on course for victory after Fernandes slotted home a penalty in the 70th minute, following a foul by Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez on Rasmus Hojlund. However, Chelsea’s equaliser arrived just four minutes later, as Caicedo unleashed a powerful shot past Andre Onana from the edge of the box.

Despite a dominant performance in the first half, Chelsea struggled to convert their dominance into goals, with Wesley Fofana hitting the woodwork with a header. United, on the other hand, also missed a number of chances, with Marcus Rashford seeing a volley cannon off the post and crossbar before the break.

Following the draw, van Nistelrooy expressed his disappointment at not securing victory but was pleased with his team’s performance. “Overall, it was a very good performance,” he said. “The players did really well and fought in every inch of the pitch. It was very good to watch that bit. Overall, the chances we created, we could have scored one more to win the game. It was a shame we couldn’t. Overall, I’m slightly disappointed we didn’t win.”

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca, meanwhile, highlighted his team’s resilience in coming back from behind. “We knew that it was a difficult game for different reasons,” Maresca said. “For a big part of the game we were in control, there was a desire to win the game and we lost our balance in the last 10 minutes or so. Overall, United were similar [to under Ten Hag], we expected them to be a bit more aggressive. Overall, the game was clear.”

The result sees Manchester United remain in a disappointing 13th place in the table, while Chelsea climb to 4th. The match was marred by a controversial tackle by Lisandro Martinez on Cole Palmer, which was reviewed by VAR but deemed not to be a red card offense.

The match was a tense affair throughout, with both sides showcasing their attacking intent. However, it was ultimately a draw that left both sides feeling frustrated at not being able to secure a win.
