Detroit, MI – This Sunday, November 10th, the Detroit Historical Society will hold its 25th annual Lost Mariners Remembrance at the Dossin Great Lakes Museum on Belle Isle. The event, which coincides with the anniversary of the sinking of the S.S. Edmund Fitzgerald, honors the memory of all mariners lost on the Great Lakes.
The ceremony will begin with a lantern ceremony at the S.S. Edmund Fitzgerald anchor, followed by a performance by acclaimed Great Lakes balladeer Lee Murdock at 6:15 PM. Other highlights include a wreath ceremony, a tribute to lost vessels, a final blessing, and a performance of Gordon Lightfoot’s “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.”
Tickets are available for $10 for members and $15 for the general public. The event is a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by those who navigate the Great Lakes and provides an opportunity for the community to come together and honor their memory.
