Fri Nov 08 06:20:00 UTC 2024: ## India Condemns Attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh, Urges Action Against Extremists
**New Delhi, October 13:** India has expressed serious concern over recent tensions in Bangladesh’s Chittagong, urging Dhaka to take swift action against extremist elements and ensure the safety of the country’s Hindu community.
The concerns arose following reports of attacks on Hindu individuals and property in Chittagong, allegedly triggered by incendiary social media posts targeting the community. India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, strongly condemned these attacks, calling them “condemnable.”
“We have seen many videos circulating on social media. It is Dhaka’s special responsibility to ensure the safety of minorities,” Jaiswal emphasized during a weekly media briefing. He highlighted the need for strong measures to control extremist elements and prevent further communal tension.
This statement follows India’s earlier expression of concern regarding an attack on a Puja mandap and theft at a revered Kali temple in Bangladesh on October 12.
India’s call for action comes as the Awami League, Bangladesh’s ruling party, faces criticism for its alleged inaction against extremist groups.
In separate developments, the MEA spokesperson also commented on India’s position on former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the ongoing workshop on constitutionalism and federalism being organized by the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA) in collaboration with Myanmar stakeholders.
Regarding the recent disengagement of Indian and Chinese troops at two friction points in eastern Ladakh, the spokesperson confirmed that patrolling has resumed at both Depsang and Demchok, as per the agreement.
Finally, the MEA spokesperson addressed ongoing economic issues between India and the United States, assuring that talks are underway to find solutions and strengthen bilateral ties.
