Fri Nov 08 09:59:12 UTC 2024: ## Putin Calls India a Global Superpower, Lauds India-Russia Ties

**Sochi, Russia:** Russian President Vladimir Putin has declared India a global superpower, citing its rapidly growing economy and its “great degree of trust” in bilateral relations with Russia. Addressing the Valdai Discussion Club in Sochi on Thursday, Putin praised India’s economic growth, calling it the “fastest growing economy in the world.”

He emphasized the burgeoning partnership between the two countries, highlighting the extensive cooperation in the defense sector. Putin cited the joint development of the BrahMos cruise missile as an example of the trust between the two nations.

“We don’t just sell our weapons to India; we design them jointly,” he said, adding that the missile is being developed for air, sea, and land deployment.

Putin acknowledged the ongoing border tensions between India and China, but expressed confidence that both countries will find a compromise, stating “wise and competent people” are committed to finding a solution.

The comments come after a four-year standoff between India and China along the Line of Actual Control in eastern Ladakh. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri recently announced that a new agreement on patrolling and disengagement of troops has been finalized, marking a potential breakthrough in the conflict.

Putin’s remarks underscore the strong and multifaceted relationship between India and Russia, solidifying their strategic partnership as they navigate complex geopolitical challenges.
