**Mangalore, November 8, 2024** – A joint operation by the Mines and Geology and Revenue Departments in Addoor, Karnataka, resulted in the seizure of 16 boats used for illegal sand extraction. Nine boats were found on the banks of the Phalguni River, while seven others were concealed beneath the water.
The raid, led by Tahsildar Prashant Patil and Geologist Girish Mohan, targeted a location on the river’s banks. The operation highlights ongoing efforts to combat illegal sand mining, which poses significant environmental threats and undermines sustainable resource management.
