Fri Nov 08 07:53:56 UTC 2024: ## Kodagu MLA Bans Sale of Unsafe Food Items From Kerala
**Bengaluru, November 8, 2024:** Virajpet MLA A.S. Ponnanna, also the Legal Advisor to the Karnataka Chief Minister, has ordered the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) to ban the sale of unsafe food items supplied from Kerala to Kodagu district. This comes after concerns were raised by the public and media about the quality of food items sold in Kutta, Makutta, and Perumbadi areas of Kodagu, located on the inter-state border.
Following these complaints, 90 food samples were collected and sent for analysis, focusing on the date of manufacture, manufacturer details, and use of artificial colours. Tests conducted by the IADFAC food testing laboratory, approved by FSSAI and accredited by NABL, revealed that 31 samples were unsafe, while 4 were found to be of substandard quality.
In response, MLA Ponnanna convened a meeting with FSSAI officials in Bengaluru to discuss the situation. He stated that he would further raise the issue with the concerned minister and officials to ensure public health is protected. While immediate measures are being taken to ban the sale of unsafe food items in Kodagu, the MLA has instructed FSSAI officials to implement necessary steps to prevent the future sale of such products.
