**Chennai, India** – In a landmark initiative aimed at bridging the educational gap in India, the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE) has announced a collaboration with nearby government schools. This program, driven by CISCE’s commitment to corporate social responsibility, will see CISCE’s Schools of Excellence sharing their best practices and methodologies with government schools to strengthen teaching quality and infrastructure.
CISCE CEO, Dr Joseph Emmauel, stated that the initiative is in line with the National Education Policy’s vision of promoting collaboration and sharing amongst neighboring schools. “Our centers of excellence will pass on their best practices in the locality,” he explained. “All stakeholders, students, school heads, parents, and management will work together to learn from each other and promote best practices.”
The move comes as Tamil Nadu witnesses a surge in schools adopting or switching to the CISCE stream, with the Madras Christian College Association planning to launch a new CISCE school. Dr P Wilson, the Principal and Secretary of the association, attributes this shift to the CISCE syllabus, which emphasizes practical learning, its pan-India presence, and its global recognition.
Dr Emmauel denied claims of “poaching” students, stating that CISCE is focused on promoting innovative practices. “We have a global connection, so the best practices from across the world can be brought into the country’s schools,” he said. “Naturally, schools across the country are attracted to this.”
Further emphasizing its commitment to inclusivity, CISCE offers flexibility to schools to align with state government policies. However, it allows students to learn up to three languages, in accordance with the National Education Policy’s (NEP) three-language formula. Dr Emmanuel clarified that no language is compulsory, respecting regional preferences like Tamil Nadu’s stance against the three-language requirement.
This collaboration marks a significant step towards achieving greater educational equity and quality across India. The initiative is being discussed at the Inter-Board School Principals Conference at Christwood School, where senior educationists from various school boards are exploring ways to align education to global standards.
