**Bengaluru, November 7, 2024:** The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has received approval from the city’s traffic police to white-top 48 roads across Bengaluru. This ambitious project, aimed at improving road infrastructure, will begin with 18 roads where necessary approvals have already been granted by various agencies including the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) and the Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL).
“After receiving the traffic police’s approval, we collaborated closely with the BWSSB to finalize the list of roads,” said BBMP Chief Commissioner Tushar Giri Nath. He added that since BWSSB work is underway on 18 of these roads, white-topping will commence there first.
The BBMP is also coordinating with other departments to prevent further digging on newly paved roads, ensuring a seamless process. However, the actual work will be delayed until other civic agencies complete their pending infrastructure projects on these roads, BBMP officials clarified.
Last year, the BBMP invested approximately ₹1,600 crore in the city’s infrastructure by engaging five private contractors to white-top 138 km of roadways. This new project will further contribute to the city’s development and improve the overall commuting experience for residents.
