Fri Nov 08 06:14:53 UTC 2024: ## 10 Missing Tigers Found in Ranthambore, Committee Formed to Investigate Disappearances

**Ranthambore National Park, Rajasthan:** A recent report claiming 25 tigers had gone missing from Ranthambore National Park has sparked controversy and prompted an investigation. However, park officials have confirmed that 10 of those tigers have already been traced.

The missing tigers were identified through a camera trap survey conducted after this year’s monsoon season. The official count of 25 missing tigers was based on data collected over the past year, which was the first time such a high number of disappearances had been recorded.

A three-member committee has been formed to investigate the remaining missing tigers and review monitoring records. The committee will focus on finding tigers that haven’t been seen since May 2023 and submit their report within two months.

The committee’s investigation will also examine any potential lapses by park officials. The report revealed that four of the missing tigers were aged over 17 years, which is considered a significant age for wild tigers.

While officials acknowledge the overcrowding of tigers in the park, they emphasize that not all of the park’s 1,400 square kilometers is prime habitat, making it difficult to support such a large population. Conservationists have repeatedly highlighted the need for safe forest corridors to enable tigers to disperse to other areas.

Past incidents of tigers being poisoned by villagers and even killed by villagers in retaliation for attacks on livestock have raised concerns over human-wildlife conflict in the region.
