**Srinagar, November 7, 2024:** Two civilians, also serving as Village Defence Guards (VDGs), were brutally murdered by suspected militants in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday. The victims, identified as Nazir Ahmad and Kuldeep Kumar, were allegedly chased into the jungles by the militants, who then executed them.

The Kashmir Tigers, a suspected offshoot of Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM), claimed responsibility for the killings via social media posts. However, police are yet to confirm the authenticity of these claims.

Meanwhile, a separate incident unfolded in Sopore, north Kashmir, where security forces have surrounded a group of militants. The encounter began after suspicious activity was detected during a search operation conducted by the Indian Army and J&K Police. The militants opened fire on the security forces, prompting a fierce exchange of gunfire. The operation remains ongoing.

The killings in Kishtwar have been widely condemned by political leaders, including National Conference president Farooq Abdullah and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. They expressed their condolences to the families of the victims and emphasized that such acts of violence hinder peace in the region.

Following the killings, security forces have launched a large-scale search operation in the area to apprehend the perpetrators.
