Fri Nov 08 10:25:22 UTC 2024: ## Australia Edges Past Pakistan in Thrilling ODI Opener

**Melbourne, Australia:** Australia secured a nail-biting two-wicket victory over Pakistan in the first ODI of the three-match series at the Melbourne Cricket Ground today.

Pakistan, batting first, posted a respectable total of 203 runs, thanks to a late flurry of boundaries from Naseem Shah (4 sixes). Babar Azam was the top scorer for Pakistan with 37 runs. Australia’s bowlers, led by captain Pat Cummins, kept a tight grip on the innings, taking regular wickets.

The Australian chase was initially hampered by the loss of two early wickets. However, Steve Smith (44) and Josh Inglis (49) stabilized the innings before a double wicket maiden by Haris Rauf in the 21st over put Pakistan back in the driving seat.

With 19 runs needed for victory and two wickets remaining, the match hung in the balance. However, a brilliant cameo from captain Pat Cummins turned the tide. Cummins smashed 31 runs off just 32 balls, including four boundaries, to steer Australia to a thrilling win.

This victory gives Australia a 1-0 lead in the series, setting the stage for an exciting contest. The next ODI is scheduled for Saturday in Sydney.
