**Vellore, November 7, 2024:** G. Viswanathan, Founder-Chancellor of the Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), has urged young people to continue playing sports in college, emphasizing the significant physical and mental health benefits. He made this call at the valedictory function of the State Volleyball Championship for youth held on the VIT campus.
Viswanathan stressed the importance of students engaging in their favorite sports beyond school. “The youth have to play a sport, whether they win or not,” he said, highlighting that participation itself is a victory, requiring dedication and teamwork. He also urged students to remember the role of teachers in their lives, just as they remember their parents.
The Salem team emerged victorious in the girls’ category, while Chennai claimed the title in the boys’ category. Trophies and medals were awarded to the winners and runners-up by Viswanathan. The event was also attended by VIT Vice-President Sankar Viswanathan and Vellore District Volleyball Association President N.V. Thiyagachantan.
