**Chennai, India (November 7, 2024)** – The city of Chennai was showered with love this October as part of “Dear Chennai, with Love,” an initiative by The Hindu Made of Chennai to commemorate World Post Day. The campaign invited residents and those with a connection to the city to express their affection through various creative formats.
From heartfelt poems and sketches to nostalgic essays and vibrant collages, participants showcased their unique perspectives on Chennai’s charm. P Mary, in her poem, described the city as a “city of dreams,” while K Prasanna Pandian captured the iconic landmarks of the Central Railway Station, Anna Nagar tower park, and Ripon buildings in a colorful postcard.
Nostalgia played a significant role in many entries. Priscilla Yazhini’s sketch of the old gate at Madras Christian College reflected on the passage of time, while R K Kumari fondly recalled her first visit to Chennai in 1978, captivated by the bustling Mount Road.
The campaign also captured the perspectives of younger generations growing up in Chennai, such as 11-year-old K J Jishnu who was inspired by the architecture of the Marina beach lighthouse.
Beyond Chennai’s borders, the love for the city extended through entries from other cities. Babitha Babu, in a beautifully calligraphed letter from Kollam, affectionately referred to Chennai as a “beautiful neighbour.”
The “Dear Chennai, with Love” campaign highlights the city’s diverse appeal, capturing its energy, history, culture, and beauty. From its iconic landmarks and bustling streets to its rich heritage and warm people, Chennai continues to hold a special place in the hearts of many.
