**WASHINGTON, D.C.** – Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India spoke with US President-elect Donald Trump on Wednesday, offering his congratulations on the election victory and reaffirming their commitment to working together for global peace.
During the conversation, Trump expressed his admiration for Modi, calling him a “magnificent man” and India a “magnificent country.” He also told Modi that he considers him and India a true friend.
“The whole world loves PM Modi,” Trump reportedly said, adding that Modi was one of the first world leaders he spoke to after his victory.
Earlier in the day, Modi had sent a congratulatory message to Trump, emphasizing their shared goal of strengthening the India-US partnership. “Together, let’s work for the betterment of our people and to promote global peace, stability and prosperity,” Modi wrote.
The phone call follows Trump’s victory in the US presidential election, where he defeated Democratic candidate Kamala Harris. His win in Wisconsin secured him the necessary 270 electoral votes to win the presidency.
Trump’s victory also saw Republicans gain control of the US Senate and maintain a strong presence in the House of Representatives, solidifying their power in Congress.
