Thu Nov 07 13:24:00 UTC 2024: ## PSG Stumbles to Defeat, Champions League Hopes Dwindling

**PARIS -** Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique blamed bad luck for his team’s 2-1 home loss to Atletico Madrid on Wednesday, admitting their Champions League hopes are now in jeopardy.

Despite dominating possession, PSG struggled to find the back of the net, falling behind early on due to a defensive lapse. While they did equalize quickly, a late counter-attack goal from Atletico’s Angel Correa sealed the victory for the Spanish side.

Enrique expressed frustration, calling the result a “bad joke” after a “shitty day.” Despite numerous chances created by PSG players like Achraf Hakimi, Bradley Barcola, and Ousmane Dembele, they failed to convert their opportunities, leaving Enrique questioning his team’s luck.

“There are no words,” Enrique said. “I think that in our three home games, we were highly superior to our opponents but we did not have any luck.”

He acknowledged the team’s precarious position, saying, “Undoubtedly [our chances of advancing are in danger]. We created 50 chances in three games and we failed to convert so many of them… we need 20 clear chances to score and our opponents sneeze and they score… it sounds like a bad joke.”

Despite the loss, Enrique remains optimistic about PSG’s direction, stating, “Creating chances is the team’s responsibility and I’m responsible for the team, so I’m responsible for the results. If I fail, I will fail with my ideas. We’re on the right path.”

Atletico coach Diego Simeone commended his team’s performance despite facing several defensive injuries. “Today we were missing five players in defence,” he said. “Despite these absences, the team were strong; we conceded the goal on a mistake but we continued to play.”

PSG now sits 25th in the 36-team league, within the elimination zone. They face a tough test against Bayern Munich on November 26, a game that could prove crucial to their Champions League aspirations.
