Wed Nov 06 19:42:30 UTC 2024: ## CBSE Cracks Down on “Dummy Admissions” in 21 Schools
**New Delhi, November 7, 2024:** The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has revoked the affiliation of 21 schools for engaging in the practice of “dummy admissions,” a scheme that allows students preparing for competitive exams to skip classes.
The action, announced on Wednesday, follows surprise inspections conducted by the CBSE in Delhi and Rajasthan on September 3. The investigation revealed that 16 of the derecognized schools are located in Delhi, with the remaining five situated in Rajasthan.
The CBSE has also downgraded six schools from senior secondary to secondary level.
According to CBSE regulations, students in Class 10 and 12 must maintain at least 75% attendance to be eligible for board exams. The Board claims that these schools lacked adequate infrastructure and staff to provide proper education to students in Classes 11 and 12, further confirming the existence of the “dummy admissions” scheme.
“We found that these schools did not have sufficient infrastructure or manpower to hold classes for students of Classes 11 and 12,” said CBSE Secretary Himanshu Gupta. He highlighted that the action was based on evidence, including video recordings.
The CBSE strongly condemned the practice of “dummy admissions,” deeming it to be in violation of the core principles of school education and detrimental to students’ overall development. “We are taking decisive action to send a clear message to all affiliated institutions to resist the lure of accepting dummy or non-attending admissions,” the Board declared in a statement.
The derecognized schools in Delhi are predominantly located in the Narela, Nangloi, Alipur, and Mundka areas. ITL Public School Principal Sudha Acharya observed that many of these schools are associated with coaching institutes. She attributed the popularity of such schools to parents who prioritize their children’s focus on competitive exams.
