Wed Nov 06 09:15:21 UTC 2024: ## Sunil Gavaskar Questions Gautam Gambhir’s Coaching Setup Ahead of Australia Tour

Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar has raised concerns over the lack of clarity in Team India’s coaching setup under newly appointed head coach Gautam Gambhir.

During an interview, Gavaskar expressed confusion over the roles of assistant coaches Abhishek Nayar and Ryan Ten Doeschate, particularly in the batting department. He pointed out that both coaches have dual roles, serving as both assistant coaches and batting coaches, which he found amusing given their limited experience compared to Gambhir.

“What is the role of Abhishek Nayar in the team? Is he a batting coach or an assistant coach?” Gavaskar questioned. “Gambhir has scored a lot more runs than the two, so if he can step in and guide the players on how to bat in Australian conditions and the type of approach they should take, then we can probably perform better.”

Gavaskar also reminded Gambhir that his honeymoon period is over and results are now expected. He urged Gambhir to be more proactive in preparing the team for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, where they will face tough challenges.

“The honeymoon period for Gautam Gambhir has ended,” said Gavaskar. “We tend to forgive the mistakes made during this period, but we now want him to step in and guide the players properly in the tour of Australia.”

Gambhir’s decisions have already been publicly questioned by experts and former players, putting his future as head coach under scrutiny. The team’s performance in the upcoming series in Australia could be crucial in determining his success.
