Wed Nov 06 07:20:00 UTC 2024: ## JEE Advanced Eligibility Relaxed: Candidates Now Allowed Three Attempts

**Kota:** In a significant move, the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced, the entrance exam for admission to 23 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) across the country, has relaxed its eligibility criteria. Candidates will now be allowed three attempts to take the exam, up from the previous limit of two.

The change, long sought after by students, is expected to come into effect next year. The organizing body for JEE Advanced this year, IIT Kanpur, has announced that candidates who cleared their 12th board exams in 2023 are eligible to appear for the exam this year. Candidates who appeared in 2024 and are planning to appear in 2025 are also eligible.

“Previously, only candidates who had passed their 12th board exams in the two years leading up to the exam were eligible,” explained education expert Dev Sharma. “This change opens up opportunities for many students, especially those who missed the chance to appear in the exam due to the previous rules.”

However, candidates who passed their 12th board exams in 2022 or earlier are not eligible for JEE Advanced. Other eligibility criteria remain unchanged, including a birth date after October 1, 2000, and passing the 12th board exam with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.

This change has been welcomed by many students, particularly those who passed their 12th boards in 2023. They can now register for the JEE Main exam, the qualifying exam for JEE Advanced, and start preparing for the prestigious entrance test. Around 2.5 lakh candidates qualify for JEE Advanced through the JEE Main exam.
