Tue Nov 05 16:59:20 UTC 2024: ## Muslim Boycott Threatens Congress Candidate in Jhunjhunu Byelection

**Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan:** The upcoming byelection in Jhunjhunu is heating up with a Muslim boycott call against the influential Ola family, posing a challenge to Congress candidate Amit Ola, a third-generation politician. The Muslim Mahapanchayat, a group representing the Muslim community, has voiced its displeasure over the Congress’s decision to nominate Amit Ola instead of Rajasthan Madrasa Board chairperson M.D. Chopdar, who was vying for the ticket.

Chopdar, a Congress government appointee, claims the party has done injustice to the Muslim community by ignoring their demand for representation. He argues that Muslims and Jats are almost equal in number in the constituency and deserve political empowerment.

The Ola family, known for its political dominance in the region, has been a fixture in Jhunjhunu politics since 1980. However, the recent uprising against their perceived dominance has created a rift within the electorate, with both Muslims and Dalits expressing dissatisfaction.

The byelection is also witnessing a triangular contest with the entry of maverick leader Rajendra Gudha as an independent candidate. Gudha, a Rajput leader, has been critical of both the Congress and BJP and has garnered support among marginalized communities.

The BJP, on the other hand, faces accusations of creating divisions between Jats, Rajputs, Muslims, and Dalits. While the party’s candidate, Rajendra Bhamboo, is working to control any negative campaigning, the situation remains volatile.

Beyond the political drama, issues like insufficient water for irrigation, denial of social security pensions, and reduced agricultural subsidies are failing to gain traction during the campaign.

The Jhunjhunu byelection is seen as a crucial test for the Congress, as they attempt to navigate the complex political landscape marked by community tensions and rising discontent against the Ola family. The outcome will likely have implications for the upcoming Rajasthan Assembly elections in 2024.
