Tue Nov 05 19:30:38 UTC 2024: ## College Students’ Bail Hearing Delayed: Parents Summoned After Fatal Assault
**Chennai, November 6, 2024:** The Madras High Court on Tuesday summoned the parents of a group of Pachaiyappa’s College students accused of fatally assaulting a Presidency College student at the Chennai Central suburban railway station on October 4th. The students, who are currently in custody, had filed bail petitions.
Justice A.D. Jagadish Chandira, who is presiding over the case, expressed concern about the increasing criminal activity involving college students and the seeming ineffectiveness of previous bail conditions. He stated that he wants to interact with the parents before making a decision on the bail petitions.
The victim, 21-year-old A. Sundar, a political science student, was commuting home from Chennai to Tiruttani in a suburban train when he and his friends were attacked by the group of Pachaiyappa’s students. While Sundar’s friends managed to escape, he fell near an ATM kiosk and was severely beaten by the attackers. Railway police intervened and took the injured student to Rajiv Gandhi General Hospital (RGGH), where his father lodged a complaint.
While initially charged with attempted murder, the charge against the accused was amended to murder after Sundar succumbed to his injuries on October 8th. The bail hearing for the accused students has now been rescheduled for November 14th.
