Wed Nov 06 05:46:55 UTC 2024: ## JEE Advanced Exam 2025: Eligibility Criteria Tightened, Attempt Limit Reduced

**Kanpur, India:** The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur has announced stricter eligibility criteria for the JEE Advanced 2025 exam, impacting the number of attempts allowed and age limit. The new guidelines, released on November 5th, aim to streamline the selection process for admission to prestigious engineering institutes across the country.

**Key Changes:**

* **Attempt Limit:** The maximum number of attempts for JEE Advanced has been reduced to three consecutive years, effective from this year. Previously, candidates were allowed two attempts in two consecutive years.
* **Age Limit:** To be eligible, candidates must have been born on or after October 1st, 2000. However, candidates belonging to SC, ST, and PwD categories are eligible for a five-year relaxation, meaning their birthdate should be on or after October 1st, 1995.
* **Educational Criteria:** Candidates must have appeared in their Class XII (or equivalent) examination for the first time in 2023, 2024, or 2025, with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects. Students who appeared for the first time in 2022 or earlier are not eligible for JEE Advanced 2025.
* **Shortlisting Criteria:** The percentage distribution for shortlisting candidates in different categories remains unchanged, with 10% for General-EWS candidates, 27% for OBC-NCL candidates, 15% for SC candidates, 7.5% for ST candidates, and 40.5% open to all. A 5% horizontal reservation is allocated to PwD candidates within each of these five categories.

The official notification clarifies that appearing for the Class XII (or equivalent) examination signifies the result declaration by the respective board, regardless of the actual exam date. Even if a candidate’s result is withheld, it will be considered as an appearance.

These revised guidelines are expected to create a more competitive environment for aspiring engineers and ensure a fair selection process for admission to IITs.
