Tue Nov 05 13:16:06 UTC 2024: ## Russia Accused of Spreading Disinformation Ahead of US Election
**Washington, D.C.** – On the eve of the 2024 US presidential election, federal law enforcement and election security agencies have exposed two new instances of Russian disinformation aimed at undermining the electoral process and sowing discord among American voters.
A joint statement released Monday evening by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the FBI, and the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) revealed that Russian actors are spreading false information, including a fabricated article claiming widespread election fraud in swing states and a manipulated video falsely depicting election fraud in Arizona.
The agencies warn that these activities, which aim to instill fear and incite violence, pose a significant threat to the integrity of the election and could lead to violence against election officials.
“These efforts risk inciting violence, including against election officials,” the statement reads.
The Russian Embassy has dismissed the allegations as “baseless,” claiming that Russia does not interfere in the internal affairs of other countries. However, US officials maintain that Russia is the most active foreign threat to the election and is likely to continue releasing manufactured content, particularly on Election Day.
The statement also highlighted Iran’s involvement in election interference, including a hack-and-leak operation designed to harm former President Donald Trump’s candidacy.
This latest revelation comes on the heels of several previous incidents of Russian disinformation, including a fake video claiming to show voter fraud in Georgia and another video depicting ballot destruction in Pennsylvania.
Despite widespread accusations, Russia, China, and Iran have denied any involvement in election interference.
