**Dallas, TX** – A Dallas singer, Jada Arnell Thomas, was shot onstage during an autograph signing following a performance with The Black Academy of Arts and Letters (TBAAL) on Saturday night.
According to witnesses, a woman in the crowd, later identified as Micah Williams, 26, fired a handgun at Thomas. The 26-year-old singer was transported to a local hospital and is reportedly in stable condition. Williams was arrested on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and is currently in custody at the Dallas County Jail.
Police are investigating the incident and have not yet revealed a motive for the shooting or if the two individuals knew each other.
TBAAL Founder and President Curtis King confirmed Thomas’s wellbeing on social media, expressing his relief that she was “going to be okay.” He described the incident as “unreal” and likened it to “everything being in slow motion.”
King also shared that the organization will implement enhanced safety measures for future events, including reducing entry points to prevent weapons from entering their spaces. He emphasized TBAAL’s commitment to providing a safe and welcoming environment for all patrons.
The incident has shaken the community and sparked concerns about safety at public events. King expressed his sadness that we live in a world where such incidents occur, adding that Thomas is “courageously strong, resilient and a devout child of God.” He urged the community to pray for Thomas’s full recovery.
