Tue Nov 05 19:40:11 UTC 2024: ## Tamil Nadu Unveils New IT Hub in Coimbatore, Creating Thousands of Jobs

**Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu** – Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inaugurated a new Elcot IT Tower in Coimbatore on Tuesday, marking a significant step in the state’s bid to become a leading technology hub. The 2.94 lakh square foot facility, built at a cost of ₹158.32 crore, is expected to generate employment for around 3,500 young people.

The inauguration comes as a testament to the Tamil Nadu government’s commitment to fostering the IT sector. The tower, built on land previously allocated by the AIADMK government, was completed after addressing irregularities identified by the current administration.

“The entire IT space at the facility is already occupied,” said Minister for Information Technology and Digital Services Palanivel Thiaga Rajan. He also announced that Elcot has additional land at the Special Economic Zone in Vilankurichi and plans to build more buildings there to cater to the increasing demand for IT office space in the region.

The new IT Tower is part of a broader plan to further develop the Vilankurichi Special Economic Zone. This includes building two more IT towers, a project estimated to cost ₹2,000 crore, creating an additional 35,000 jobs.

Beyond IT, the state government is also making strides in the aerospace and defense sector. Chief Minister Stalin also handed over land allocation letters to ten companies in the sector, enabling them to set up manufacturing facilities on 43.75 acres at the Defence Components Manufacturing Park in Varapatti, Coimbatore. This initiative is a key part of the Tamil Nadu Defence Industrial Corridor, which aims to establish the state as a leading center for aerospace and defense manufacturing.

The development of the Defence Components Manufacturing Park, covering over 380 acres and costing ₹315 crore, is set to further boost the state’s industrial landscape. With world-class infrastructure and plug-and-play facilities, the park will offer support for large-scale manufacturing and service operations.
