Wed Nov 06 04:50:00 UTC 2024: ## Pennsylvania: The Keystone State Holds the Key to the White House in Tight US Presidential Race
The US presidential election on Tuesday is shaping up to be one of the most unpredictable and volatile in recent history, with both Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump neck-and-neck in the race. The outcome could hinge on the outcome of the crucial battleground state of Pennsylvania.
Known as the Keystone State, Pennsylvania boasts 19 electoral votes, making it the largest prize among the swing states. Historically, the winner of Pennsylvania has a strong chance of securing the presidency, with experts calculating a 90% success rate.
Both Harris and Trump have heavily invested in Pennsylvania, which symbolizes the nation’s political divide. In 2020, Biden won the state by a narrow margin, flipping it from red to blue. This year, both sides are fighting hard to secure its crucial votes.
Harris can secure the presidency with wins in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, and one congressional district in Nebraska. Trump, on the other hand, needs Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Georgia, and wins in other swing states.
While Pennsylvania holds the most electoral votes, Trump could still win without it, albeit with a more challenging path. He would need to secure victories in Georgia, Arizona, North Carolina, and at least one of the Great Lakes battlegrounds (Michigan or Wisconsin).
Harris could also win without Pennsylvania, focusing on Michigan, Wisconsin, and other key swing states like North Carolina and Georgia. A more unconventional strategy would involve sweeping the Sun Belt states, including Arizona, Nevada, North Carolina, and Georgia, even without winning the northern battlegrounds.
Despite the potential for both candidates to win without it, Pennsylvania remains the most critical state, with a 22% chance of being the “tipping point” that determines the election outcome.
The contest in Pennsylvania is expected to be extremely close, with both sides pouring resources into the state. It could well be the state that decides who wins the presidency.
