Wed Nov 06 08:26:14 UTC 2024: ## Banker Engine Derails at Kasara Station, Affecting Long-Distance Trains
**Mumbai, November 6, 2024:** A banker engine, used to assist trains climbing steep gradients, derailed at the Kasara station in Maharashtra’s Thane district on Wednesday afternoon, according to Central Railway officials. The incident occurred at 12:20 pm in the station’s yard, causing disruption to long-distance train services.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported. While suburban train services are operating as usual, some mail and express trains may experience delays due to the derailment.
The Kasara station, located in the north-east sector of the Mumbai suburban network, is the final stop on the route towards Nashik. Restoration work is currently underway at the site.
Banker engines, typically operating in sets of two or three, are deployed to push trains uphill in mountainous sections. They are used in the Kasara and Bhor ghat sections, which connect Mumbai to Nashik and Pune, respectively.
