**Patna, November 5, 2024:** Renowned folk singer Sharda Sinha, known for her melodious rendition of Maithili and Bhojpuri folk songs, passed away in Delhi AIIMS on Tuesday night. She was 72.

Sinha’s body was brought to her residence in Patna’s Rajendra Nagar, where Chief Minister Nitish Kumar paid his respects. Her last rites will be performed with state honors at Gulbi Ghat in Patna on Thursday. BJP National President JP Nadda will visit her residence on Thursday evening to pay his tributes.

Sinha’s death came just a day before the auspicious festival of Chhath, for which she was particularly known for her devotional songs. The AIIMS confirmed that she succumbed to septicemia (blood infection).

She was admitted to AIIMS on October 26 after her health deteriorated. While her condition improved and she was shifted to a private ward on November 3, her oxygen levels dipped on November 4, leading to her being placed on a ventilator.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences, stating, “Her Maithili and Bhojpuri folk songs have been immensely popular for decades. Her songs associated with the great festival of Chhath will forever resonate.”

Sharda Sinha’s contributions to the world of folk music will be remembered for generations to come.
