Mon Nov 04 21:00:17 UTC 2024: ## Kurnool Villagers Boycott Uranium Exploration Meeting, Demand Government Halt Project
**Kurnool, November 5, 2024:** Farmers and villagers from Kappatralla and surrounding areas in Devanakonda mandal, Kurnool district, staged a protest on Monday, boycotting a meeting intended to educate them on the proposed uranium exploration project in the Kappatralla forest. The villagers, concerned about the potential environmental impact of the project, demanded that the government drop the proposal altogether.
The protest, which took place at the Edulla Devarabanda junction on the Kurnool-Ballari road, caused a major traffic jam. A team of officials from the revenue, mining, forest, and police departments, who had convened the meeting to gather feedback and address concerns, were met with resistance and were ultimately unable to hold the meeting.
Meanwhile, a delegation of protesting villagers met with District in-charge Minister Nimmala Rama Naidu in Kurnool city, requesting the immediate cancellation of the permissions granted for uranium exploration. Mr. Rama Naidu assured the villagers that he would bring their concerns to the attention of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and ensure their voices are heard.
