Tue Nov 05 09:05:08 UTC 2024: ## Supreme Court Upholds Uttar Pradesh Madrasa Education Act, Bringing Relief to Thousands

The Supreme Court of India has delivered a major victory for thousands of madrasas in Uttar Pradesh by upholding the constitutional validity of the Uttar Pradesh Board of Madrasa Education Act, 2004. The court’s ruling, delivered on Tuesday, overturned a previous decision by the Allahabad High Court which had declared the act unconstitutional, deeming it against secular principles.

The Allahabad High Court’s decision had threatened the future of over 17 lakh students and 10,000 madrasa teachers. The Supreme Court, however, declared that the High Court’s judgment was incorrect and would have a detrimental impact on the education of these individuals.

The Supreme Court’s decision has brought relief to the community, with the operations of over 16,000 madrasas in Uttar Pradesh now continuing as usual. Spokespersons for the Samajwadi Party (SP) have welcomed the Supreme Court’s ruling, stating that people across the country are celebrating the decision.
