Tue Nov 05 08:10:00 UTC 2024: ## Disaster Relief: D-SNAP Offers Food Assistance to Hurricane Helene Victims

**Washington, D.C. -** Following the devastating Hurricane Helene, the USDA’s Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) is providing Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (D-SNAP) benefits to eligible residents in affected areas.

D-SNAP offers food assistance to individuals and families impacted by natural disasters, such as hurricanes, tornadoes, and floods. This program provides financial support to those who have lost income, damaged property, or lost food due to power outages. Even individuals who don’t typically qualify for SNAP (Food Stamps) may be eligible for D-SNAP in disaster situations.

The D-SNAP program for Hurricane Helene will operate in four phases, running from October 21st through November 23rd, 2024. **However, please note that phases 1 and 2 have already concluded, and applications are no longer being accepted for those phases.**

If you have been affected by Hurricane Helene and believe you may qualify for D-SNAP, you can apply to receive a one-time benefit to help you purchase food. Approved applicants will receive funds through an EBT (Electronic Benefits Transfer) card, which can be used to buy eligible food items at authorized retailers.

For more information about D-SNAP eligibility requirements and application procedures, please contact your local FNS office or visit the USDA website.
