Tue Nov 05 15:58:23 UTC 2024: ## Classic Films to Screen in Thiruvananthapuram as Part of Film Preservation Workshop

**Thiruvananthapuram, November 5, 2024:** Film enthusiasts in Thiruvananthapuram are in for a treat as the Film Heritage Foundation hosts the Film Preservation and Restoration Workshop India 2024. From November 8th to 14th, the Sree theatre will showcase restored versions of iconic films like Buster Keaton’s “The General,” Ousmane Sembene’s “Camp De Thiaroye,” and Shyam Benegal’s “Manthan,” among others.

The screenings are open to the public and will take place daily from 6:30 p.m. onwards. The workshop itself, held at the Vyloppilly Samskrithi Bhavan, is for registered participants only.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the week-long workshop on November 7th at the Golf Club, joined by Minister for Cultural Affairs Saji Cherian, filmmaker Saeed Akhtar Mirza, actors Sheela and Jalaja, and Chief Secretary Saradha Muraleedharan. Film historian S. Theodore Baskaran will be honored with a lifetime achievement award at the ceremony.

The workshop, led by 20 international archivists and conservators, will cover a wide range of topics including film, video, audio, and digital preservation, conservation and restoration techniques, digitization, disaster recovery, and cataloguing. Hands-on sessions will complement lectures, offering a comprehensive learning experience for participants.
