Mon Nov 04 23:20:00 UTC 2024: ## College Basketball Season Kicks Off in Sioux Falls with “Field of 68 Opening Day Showcase”
**SIOUX FALLS, SD** – The Sanford Pentagon will be the site of the first major college basketball action of the season, hosting the “Field of 68 Opening Day Showcase” on [date]. The event, organized by longtime college basketball reporter Jeff Goodman, will feature three mid-major games, culminating in South Dakota State taking the court in the evening.
Goodman, who runs the Field of 68 media network, wanted to create a special start to the college hoops season. The event includes a unique matchup with former SDSU head coach Scott Nagy making his debut as Southern Illinois’ new head coach against the College of Charleston. While Goodman attempted to get Nagy to face his former team, SDSU, the coach ultimately declined.
The day’s lineup includes:
* **11:00 AM:** Southern Illinois vs. College of Charleston
* **2:00 PM:** University of Saint Louis vs. Santa Clara
* **5:00 PM:** South Dakota State vs. McNeese State
Both SDSU and McNeese State qualified for the NCAA Tournament last season.
Goodman highlighted the need for high-quality games early in the season, stating, “College basketball starts off without a bang. I mean there’s no good games, there all ‘buy’ games. I’ve complained about it for years and we felt like we could help and get some mid-major games together.”
Fans who can’t make it to the Pentagon can stream all the games on the Field of 68’s YouTube and X (formerly Twitter) platforms.
