Tue Nov 05 15:28:22 UTC 2024: ## Congress Confident of Reclaiming Chelakkara in Upcoming Kerala Bypolls

**Thrissur, November 5, 2024:** The Congress party is optimistic about reclaiming the Chelakkara Assembly constituency from the Left Democratic Front (LDF) in the upcoming bypolls, according to Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president K. Sudhakaran, MP.

Addressing a UDF campaign rally in Chelakkara, Mr. Sudhakaran expressed confidence that the people will reject the “authoritarian rule” of the CPI(M), citing alleged human rights violations and corruption. He also predicted victories for the UDF in Palakkad and Wayanad, where the party is facing the BJP and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is contesting respectively.

Mr. Sudhakaran highlighted the failure of both the Central and State governments to implement the Wayanad package for disaster-affected residents, an issue he believes will resonate with voters. He also criticized the LDF government’s handling of various issues, including corruption, mismanagement, inflation, the CPI(M)’s alleged ties with the Sangh Parivar, the unrest surrounding Thrissur Pooram, and the Chief Minister’s controversial remarks about Malappuram.

Furthermore, Mr. Sudhakaran expressed opposition to the K-Rail project, claiming it is detrimental to the environment and people, and alleging that the CPI(M)’s recent reversal on the project is a result of a secret deal with the BJP. He also alleged that the Kodakara hawala money case was suppressed due to collusion between the CPI(M) and the BJP, and that the Pinarayi government’s new investigation is merely a political stunt.

The Congress leader criticized the Pinarayi government for its perceived failure to address escalating crime against women and for protecting criminal officials. He pointed to the protection provided to P.P. Divya, allegedly involved in the death of ADM Naveen Babu, as a prime example of the government’s alleged complicity.

Mr. Sudhakaran concluded by asserting that the UDF’s fight to end the LDF’s “misrule” will be bolstered by the support of secular voters, who are opposed to the alleged communal agenda of the Chief Minister and the CPI(M). He accused the LDF government of prioritizing corruption and scams over solving the state’s problems, leading to a financial crisis, disruptions to welfare schemes, and the deterioration of public sector institutions.

The upcoming bypolls, Mr. Sudhakaran concluded, will serve as a referendum on the Pinarayi government’s governance.
