**Brampton, Canada:** A Canadian police officer has been suspended after a video surfaced online showing him participating in a pro-Khalistan protest outside a Hindu temple in Brampton. The officer, identified as Harinder Sohi, a Sergeant with the Peel Regional Police, was seen holding a Khalistan flag while others chanted anti-India slogans.
The incident occurred on Sunday following a visit by Indian consular officials to the Hindu Sabha Mandir temple. Protests erupted, with demonstrators holding banners supporting Khalistan, a proposed independent Sikh homeland in northern India, clashing with individuals holding India’s national flag. Videos of the event show physical altercations, including fistfights and individuals striking each other with poles.
The Peel Regional Police responded by increasing their presence at the temple and dispersing the protestors. Three individuals have been charged in relation to the violence, which eventually moved to two other locations in neighboring Mississauga.
The events have drawn condemnation from Canadian political leaders and India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who called for accountability from the Canadian government and expressed his condemnation of the attacks on the temple and diplomats.
