Tue Nov 05 01:30:00 UTC 2024: ## BJP Protests Against Waqf Board Land Claims, Demands Law Amendment
**Bengaluru, November 5, 2024:** The BJP on Monday staged state-wide protests against the alleged encroachment of farmers’ land by the Waqf Board. The party accuses the Congress government of failing to protect farmers and demands an immediate amendment to the Waqf Act.
Leader of the Opposition R. Ashok led the protests, urging the Congress government to make necessary changes to the legislation to safeguard farmers’ rights. He accused the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of appeasing a specific community and demanded his resignation for failing to address the issue.
Ashok also urged farmers who received eviction notices from the Waqf Board to resist any attempts by board officials to enter their land. He promised the BJP’s support to fight for farmers’ rights and suggested a CBI probe into alleged encroachment of Waqf properties.
The protests come after reports emerged of farmers receiving eviction notices from the Waqf Board, alleging land ownership based on the Record of Rights, Tenancy and Crops (RTC). The BJP blames Waqf Minister B.Z. Zameer Ahmed Khan for pressuring officials to issue these notices, accusing him of causing distress among farmers.
