Sun Nov 03 17:09:52 UTC 2024: ## Second Edition of “Inscriptions of Andhra Pradesh” Released in Visakhapatnam

**VISAKHAPATNAM, November 3, 2024:** The second edition of the book “Inscriptions of Andhra Pradesh,” authored by C. Somasundara Rao, was released at the Visakhapatnam Public Library on Sunday. The book, which delves into the history of inscriptions in Andhra Pradesh, was launched by A. Prasanna Kumar, Director of the Centre for Policy Studies.

Rao, a former Professor of History and Archaeology at Andhra University, explained that his work is inspired by his mentor, Mallampalli Somasekhara Sarma, a leading expert on deciphering inscriptions. He highlighted the evolution of scripts in the region, tracing their development from the Brahmi script, the foundation of most South Indian languages, to the Nagari script, which evolved into the Deva Nagari script used for Sanskrit and other North Indian languages.

Rao also pointed out the significant changes in the Telugu and Kannada scripts during different dynasties, including the Satavahana and Ishkavakus. He further explained how Varahamihira’s introduction of a numerical system to represent different words influenced his research and emphasized that the book would serve as a valuable resource for students and researchers alike.

The first edition of “Inscriptions of Andhra Pradesh” was also launched at the same library in 2014.
