**BENGALURU, INDIA -** Pakistan’s star batsman, Babar Azam, will take a break from test cricket, according to captain Shan Masood. This comes after a series of disappointing performances, including a recent string of low scores in the first test against England.
Despite the recent struggles, Masood remains confident in Babar’s abilities, calling him “one of the best batsmen in the world.” Masood believes that a break will allow Babar to rediscover his form and return as a stronger player.
“He’s always there or thereabouts in the rankings. Sometimes, people need a break. I personally think this break will do him a great deal of benefit and he’ll come back a stronger player,” Masood told the BBC’s ‘Stumped’ podcast.
Babar’s absence from the Test squad is expected to be brief. He will be back in the One-Day International and Twenty20 squads for the upcoming tour of Australia.
Pakistan’s next test series is scheduled for December against South Africa.
