Mon Nov 04 07:08:11 UTC 2024: ## Former Netanyahu Spokesman Detained for Alleged Leak of Sensitive Documents During Gaza Hostage Negotiations

**Rishon LeZion, Israel** – A former spokesman for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Eliezer Feldstein, has been detained on suspicion of leaking confidential documents that may have jeopardized the negotiation process for a prisoner exchange with Hamas in Gaza.

Feldstein was arrested along with three other individuals, including security officials, according to the court in Rishon LeZion. The investigation into the leak began in September after two newspapers, The Jewish Chronicle and Bild, published articles based on the classified documents. One article claimed to reveal a plan to smuggle Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar and hostages out of Gaza through the Philadelphi Corridor, while the other claimed to be a Hamas internal memo on their hostage strategy.

However, Israeli media reports later revealed that the first document was a fake, and the memo was written by low-ranking Hamas militants. Despite this, the court stated that the release of the documents posed a serious threat to national security and could have hampered the hostage release efforts.

The opposition has seized on the case, questioning whether Prime Minister Netanyahu was involved in the leaks. They allege that the leaks were orchestrated to sabotage potential hostage releases and advance Netanyahu’s political agenda.

Opposition leader Yair Lapid called the affair a “serious security breach” originating in Netanyahu’s office, demanding an investigation into whether the leaks were authorized by the Prime Minister. Benny Gantz, another prominent opposition figure, described the case as “profiteering with state secrets for political purposes.”

Prime Minister Netanyahu has denied any involvement in the leaks, claiming that the document published by Bild never reached his office. He also stated that Feldstein, without naming him directly, was never privy to security meetings or confidential documents.

The investigation into the leaked documents is ongoing and will likely shed light on the extent of Feldstein’s alleged involvement and the potential role of other individuals in the alleged leak. The case has sparked heated political debate in Israel, raising serious questions about the security of sensitive information within the Prime Minister’s office.
