**Brampton, Canada:** India has strongly condemned the violence perpetrated by extremists and separatists at the Hindu Sabha Temple in Brampton, Ontario, on Sunday. In a statement released Monday, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal demanded that the Canadian government prosecute those responsible for the attack.

“We condemn the acts of violence perpetrated by extremists and separatists at the Hindu Sabha Temple in Brampton, Ontario yesterday. We call on the Government of Canada to ensure that all places of worship are protected from such attacks. We also expect that those indulging in violence will be prosecuted,” Jaiswal said.

The MEA expressed deep concern over the safety and security of Indians in Canada, assuring that consular services would continue despite intimidation and harassment.

The attack, which saw a mob carrying Khalistani flags clash with people outside the temple, was condemned by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. “The acts of violence at the Hindu Sabha Mandir in Brampton today are unacceptable. Every Canadian has the right to practice their faith freely and safely,” he said in a post on X.

The High Commission of India in Ottawa also issued a statement condemning the attack, calling it a “violent disruption” orchestrated by anti-India elements.

This incident further strains already tense relations between India and Canada, which have hit rock bottom following Canada’s allegations against Indian diplomats in connection with the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar. India has withdrawn its senior diplomats from Canada and expelled Canadian officials from New Delhi in response.

India has accused Canada of “harassment and intimidation” of Indian consular staff by placing them under surveillance, which it deems a violation of diplomatic conventions.
