**Brisbane, Australia (November 4, 2024):** India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar inaugurated the new Consulate General of India in Brisbane on Monday, marking a significant step in strengthening bilateral ties with the Queensland state. The new consulate, India’s fourth in Australia after Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth, is expected to foster economic cooperation, educational exchange, and better serve the Indian diaspora in the region.

“Delighted to formally inaugurate the new Consulate General of India in Brisbane today,” Mr. Jaishankar wrote on social media. “It will contribute to strengthening India’s ties with Queensland state, promoting trade, fostering educational linkages and serving the diaspora.”

During his visit, Mr. Jaishankar met with Queensland Governor Dr. Jeannette Young, discussing opportunities to enhance economic, trade, and investment cooperation with the state.

Mr. Jaishankar also paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Roma Street Parklands in Brisbane, highlighting the Mahatma’s message of peace and harmony that resonates globally.

The External Affairs Minister’s visit to Australia comes as part of a two-nation tour that also includes Singapore. In Canberra, Mr. Jaishankar will co-chair the 15th Foreign Ministers’ Framework Dialogue (FMFD) with his Australian counterpart Penny Wong and deliver the keynote address at the inaugural session of the 2nd Raisina Down Under in the Australian Parliament House. He will also engage with Australian leaders, parliamentarians, businesses, media, and think tanks.

From Australia, Mr. Jaishankar will travel to Singapore, where he will address the 8th Roundtable of the ASEAN-India Network of Think Tanks and hold discussions with Singaporean leaders to review the close partnership between the two countries.
