Mon Nov 04 15:57:02 UTC 2024: ## Palakkad By-Election Rescheduled to November 20th Due to Festival
**THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, INDIA – November 04, 2024** – The Election Commission of India (ECI) has rescheduled the by-election for the Palakkad Assembly constituency to November 20th, taking into account the Kalpathy Rathotsavam (car festival) which falls on the original date.
Both the CPI(M)-led LDF and the Congress-led UDF have welcomed the ECI’s decision. Leader of the Opposition, V.D. Satheesan, stated that the UDF had requested the date change to ensure maximum voter turnout during the festival season, emphasizing their readiness to face the election regardless of the date.
LDF convener, T.P. Ramakrishnan, credited the concerted efforts of the people of Palakkad and the LDF for the successful postponement, highlighting their earlier request for a date change on October 15th.
KPCC president, K. Sudhakaran, echoed the sentiment of respecting cultural heritage, noting the Kalpathy festival’s importance to the region and the concerns raised by the original election date. However, he also voiced his opinion that the ECI’s decision to reschedule was delayed unnecessarily.
The by-election will now take place on November 20th, allowing for a more conducive environment for voter participation during the Kalpathy Rathotsavam.
