**Darbhanga, Bihar:** Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone for the second All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Bihar, located in Darbhanga, on November 13th. The state-of-the-art facility, spread across 187 acres in Sobhan, was approved in 2019-20 and is expected to offer advanced healthcare services to the people of Mithila region, Nepal, and the Northeast.
The 750-bed hospital, estimated to cost ₹1264 crore, was approved in 2020. The construction contract has been awarded to the Hospital Services Consultancy Corporation (HSCC), a subsidiary of the National Building Construction Corporation.
The project has been re-designed by IIT Delhi, with the estimated cost potentially reaching ₹1700 crore.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will also attend the foundation laying ceremony.
Darbhanga was chosen for its strategic location as a hub for education and healthcare in North Bihar, and its proximity to Nepal.
Darbhanga MP Gopal Ji Thakur highlighted the importance of the project in improving healthcare infrastructure and providing advanced medical facilities in the region. He stated that the initiative would contribute to medical research and education in North Bihar, leading to economic growth, job creation, and reducing the need for people to travel to distant cities for specialized medical care.
