Mon Nov 04 09:05:25 UTC 2024: ## Uttarakhand Bus Accident Claims 36 Lives, CM Dhami Orders Probe and Suspension

**Almora, Uttarakhand:** A tragic bus accident in Uttarakhand’s Almora district has claimed the lives of at least 36 people, with several others injured. The accident occurred on Monday when a passenger bus carrying 45 people fell into a gorge near Marchula.

Following the incident, a rescue operation was immediately launched by the local administration and SDRF. Three critically injured passengers were airlifted to AIIMS, while others are receiving treatment at Ramnagar Government Hospital.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed deep sorrow over the incident and ordered a magisterial inquiry by the Kumaon Divisional Commissioner. He also suspended the ARTs of Pauri and Almora districts.

“The unfortunate bus accident in Marchula, Almora district, has caused immense pain. I have instructed the district administration to conduct a swift relief and rescue operation. The local administration and SDRF are working tirelessly to reach the injured and provide them medical aid. We will also airlift critically injured passengers if needed,” said Dhami.

The CM also announced an ex gratia of Rs 4 lakh to the families of the deceased and Rs 1 lakh for the injured. He assured that the government will take strict action against those responsible for negligence.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed his condolences, announcing an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund for the families of each deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured.

Several political leaders, including Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, and AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal, also expressed their grief over the accident and offered their condolences to the bereaved families.

The accident has highlighted the need for enhanced safety measures on Uttarakhand’s roads. The authorities are now working to ascertain the cause of the accident and take necessary steps to prevent such tragedies in the future.
