**MUMBAI, INDIA -** India’s reign atop the World Test Championship (WTC) standings came to an end on Sunday, as New Zealand secured a thrilling 25-run victory in the third Test match in Mumbai. This consolation win for New Zealand saw them climb to fourth place in the WTC standings, keeping their hopes of qualifying for the final alive.

India, led by Rohit Sharma, had started the three-match series at the top of the standings. However, they suffered a disappointing 0-3 defeat, allowing Australia to overtake them.

The loss comes at a crucial juncture for India, as they are set to face Australia in a five-match series, starting November 22. This series will be crucial for both teams in their bid to secure a place in the WTC final, scheduled for June 2025 at Lord’s.
