**CHENNAI, November 3, 2024:** Two school students, R. Sri Suthan (13) and Jaswant (12), tragically drowned in a pond near Semmancheri on Friday. The friends, both Class 8 students from Thalambur, had gone to the pond in Vazhavettithangal with friends to enjoy the holiday.
Despite not knowing how to swim, the boys entered the water. They soon found themselves struggling to stay afloat and called for help. While their friends attempted to alert others, the boys unfortunately drowned before they could be rescued.
The Semmancheri police recovered the bodies and sent them to Government Royapettah Hospital for post-mortem. This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of water safety and the need for proper supervision, especially for children who may not be strong swimmers.
