Sun Nov 03 04:40:00 UTC 2024: ## Thunder Roll Over Blazers Despite Early Fight
**Portland, OR** – The Portland Trail Blazers put up a valiant fight in the first half against the Oklahoma City Thunder Friday night, but the undefeated Thunder ultimately proved too strong, running away with a 137-114 victory.
The Blazers’ physicality and size frustrated the Thunder early on, with the Moda Center crowd roaring their approval as the game remained close. However, the Thunder’s offensive firepower and defensive pressure proved too much to handle.
A devastating 35-9 run over nine minutes spanning the third and fourth quarters turned a two-point game into a runaway victory for Oklahoma City. The Thunder’s precision passing and fluid offense, coupled with the star power of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (30 points) and Jalen Williams (22 points), proved too much for the Blazers to overcome.
Despite a strong first half that saw the Blazers shoot 11-22 from three and turn the ball over just four times, the second half was a different story. Portland shot 4-13 from three, committed 15 turnovers, and lost the rebounding battle, allowing the Thunder to seize control.
“They make every team look like that,” said Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups. “They’re just that good.”
While the defeat was a disappointment for Portland, the game showcased the vast gap between the Blazers and a true title contender like the Thunder. While Portland’s physicality and early offensive success were encouraging, the lack of execution and experience showed in the second half.
The Blazers will need to find a way to maintain their intensity and consistency throughout the game to compete with the league’s elite.
