**Hyderabad, November 3, 2024:** The Telangana government is set to launch its first comprehensive socio-economic, educational, political, and caste census from November 6th, aiming to create a detailed database of all families in the state.
The move comes after years of advocacy for a caste census, with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy citing the need for accurate data to address the needs of socially and educationally backward classes. The census aligns with the Congress party’s stance on fair representation based on population, as championed by senior leader Rahul Gandhi.
The census, which will take approximately eight weeks to complete, will involve over 80,000 enumerators and 10,000 supervisors who will survey every household in Telangana. Data will be collected digitally, with a printed questionnaire provided to each family.

The upcoming census builds upon the lessons learned from the Samagra Kutumba Survey conducted in 2014. While the survey aimed to gather data for targeted welfare programs, its single-day implementation faced criticism for its rushed nature and exclusion of certain segments of the population.
