Sat Nov 02 20:30:30 UTC 2024: ## BJP Leader Accuses MVA of Double Standards After Derogatory Remarks by Shiv Sena MP

Mumbai: A heated controversy has erupted in the Mumbadevi constituency after Shiv Sena MP Arvind Sawant allegedly used a derogatory term against BJP leader and Mahayuti candidate Shaina NC. This has sparked accusations of double standards against the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government.

Shaina NC expressed her outrage, questioning why MVA leaders like Priyanka Gandhi and Priyanka Chaturvedi had not condemned the remarks. She highlighted that Sawant’s apology came only after an FIR was filed, 30 hours after the incident. She further questioned Congress candidate Amin Patel, claiming he laughed during Sawant’s remarks. “Would he react the same way if the remark was directed at a woman from his religion or community?” she asked.

Adding to the controversy, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut defended Sawant’s actions, stating no apology was necessary. This prompted Shaina NC to comment, “If Sanjay Raut has no objection to the word ‘maal’, it shows his mentality. ‘Maal’ is objectification. It means you are the property of someone.”

Shaina NC emphasized that the issues of Mumbadevi constituency, like the redevelopment of Kamathipura and chawls, should be the focus of the election discourse. She questioned whether Aaditya Thackeray, who resides in Bandra and represents Worli, would also be considered an outsider.

NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar, commenting on the issue in Baramati, advised that “one should take care while talking.” He refrained from labeling Sawant’s remarks as a personal attack.

The controversy has thrown the spotlight on the alleged double standards within the MVA and has further fueled the heated political atmosphere in the run-up to the upcoming elections.
